We watched Uproar last night, a film from Aotearoa about a teenage boy, played by Julian Dennison (of Hunt For the Wilderpeople fame ), coming of age and finding his identity as a Māori in Ōtepoti during the Springbok tour in 1981. It's a terrific watch and I am surprised it hasn't had wider publicity since being released in 2023. The script is a bit clunky in parts but that's a minor carp. It was just great to watch a film that is so clearly and firmly rooted in Aotearoa with local actors, locations, music and of course history. And so nice to see my old hometown on the silver screen. Warmly recommended.
