124 new measles cases in South Carolina, Arizona-Utah border outbreak grows

Health officials in South Carolina have confirmed 124 new cases of measles since Friday. Hundreds of children have been quarantined because of school exposures, some more than once. A separate outbreak has infected 418 people along the Arizona-Utah border. Both outbreaks are growing in the wake of the winter holidays. The U.S. confirmed 2,144 cases across 44 states in 2025. Measles is preventable through vaccines and has been considered eliminated from the U.S. since 2000, though the country is at risk of losing that achievement.

92% of reported cases this year are among people who are #unvaccinated or of unknown vaccination status. Otbreak in #Utah and #Arizona is largest in the country, with more than 180 cases.
