3. Unthank : Smith, "Nowhere and Everywhere"

Paul Smith from Maximo Park and Rachel from The Unthanks team up for a dark, sparse, folk-y album of songs loosely themed around the Northeast. Seeing them play it all live is a really special memory from this year, too.

Unthank : Smith - Seven Tears

Last night, we saw Unthank : Smith at the Band on the Wall, Manchester.

Unthank : Smith is a new northeast folk-y project by Rachel of The Unthanks and Paul Smith of Maxïmo Park.

With Rachel on harmonium and cello, Paul on guitar, the rest of the band added clarinet/sax, drums, guitar/bass and harmonies. But really it was all about Paul and Rachel singing together, sometimes a cappella.

We had an amazing view too, from the second row. What a wonderful gig!

Listening to Unthank : Smith, "Nowhere and Everywhere"

Rachel from The Unthanks and Paul from Maximo Park collaborate on a dark, sparse, folky album rooted in the North East of England. Beautiful.
