#UniversityOfMaine’s #USDA funding restored

by WABI News Desk
Published: Mar. 12, 2025 at 9:05 PM EDT

Maine (WABI) - "Senator #SusanCollins announced Wednesday that the University of Maine’s funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been restored.

"On Monday the University received notice that funding from the USDA was paused.

"According to UMS, the notice stated the pause was temporary while the USDA evaluated potential follow-up actions related to prospective Title VI (6) or Title IX (9) violations.

"Collins released at statement saying:

'This USDA funding is critically important not only to the University of Maine, but to our farmers and loggers, as well as to the many people who work in #Maine’s #agriculture, #aquaculture, and #forestry industries. Now that funding has been restored, the work that the University does in partnership with the many people and communities who depend on these programs can continue.'"

In apparent retribution against Maine Governor Janet Mills, trump admin has suddenly paused millions of dollars of funding to the University of Maine, pending "civil rights review".

"OLD MAN'S SONG"

"Old Man's Song," a Tom Rush classic, is from his "Tom Rush" album, also a classic, on the Columbia Records label.

The topmost comment in the YouTube post starts with this:

"I was a kid and heard Child Song and other Tom Rush songs on WBCN Boston and jumped right out of bed, hitch hiked 20 miles bought this album, and hitch hiked right back home."

Well, I skipped out of my brother's wedding reception and went to hear Tom Rush at the University of Maine. He led a trio including Trevor Veitch on guitar and Duke Bardwell on bass. It was one of the best concerts of any sort I have ever heard. Tevor Veitch did many and diverse things in popular music, but this is the only time I heard him live. It seems to me Duke Bardwell was with Elvis Presley when I heard him in concert. Bardwell, at one time or another, was definitely in Presley's TCB Band.

The new Tom Rush album, "Gardens Old, Flowers New," is set for release tomorrow, Friday, March 1, 2024. When people tell Rush it is his best album, he corrects them, saying it is his best album so far.

@clawfulneutral

Let me call your attention to clawful's digs (heh heh) at President Biden below. This does not come in the pages of the New York Post or the Washington Examiner. It does not come from Republican TV (FOX). It comes from the friendly neighborhood of hashtag-democrats. It seems to me this lends support to a thing I posted a short time ago: that we have a problem not to be ignored.

Biden has a long history of slipping into Gaffe-o-Matic mode but these days it is being interpreted in terms of his advanced years. Ageism comes so easily we don't even notice we're doing it. Meanwhile, the vain-to-the-max Donald Trump does everything possible to conceal that he, too, is way up there in age. Trump artificially colors his hair, which can't possibly be too light yellow. He belligerently combs his hair forward to cover up for his rapidly receding hairline. And he has his face plastered with really thick brownface makeup to hide his sickly complexion. This is one of our most important opportunities to out "but what about" Republicans.

We have got to do all we can to counter "Republicans" playing the age card. Or get another candidate fast. I, for one, do not want to be spending the coming years opposing President Trump 47. I graduated from the University of Maine in the same graduating class as author Stephen King and I know horror when I see it.

Justin Morrill, who is referenced in this piece, was very important in Vermont history. I graduated from the first Morrill Act land-grant state college, the University of Maine (Class of 1970).
