Those who excuse residents of districts that repeatedly vote illiberals or fascists into office as being victims of gerrymandering betray an ignorance of American bicameralism and structural separation:

These same districts’ voters repeatedly elect repugnant U.S. senators and governors, and the units (states) that account for this themselves cannot be gerrymandered by definition.
