Much has happened with #ultreia in the past weeks.
Ultreia.me is a project to search and map the Caminos de Santiago. You can use it to find albergues, fountains, points of interest, vegan and vegetarian albergues and restaurants, food carts, camping-friendly places, and more. It is decidedly not a Planner, use Godesalco for that, it’s excellent.
It is also a project to share this information with the commons, interacting with OpenStreetMap to contribute back what our users discover, making it available to anyone, here and on any other Camino route planner or mapper.
ulreia.me (@[email protected]) just leveled up. We've been syncing fountain potability updates to @[email protected] for a few months, now, so that pilgrims can find potable water faster (not all fountains are potable all year round).
We do this by crowd sourcing survey with the app, and then do a curated push to OSM, to avoid vandalism, spam, and false changes.
Now we've added albergues (hostels on the Caminos) and, very importantly, the diet: field, which outlines vegan and vegetarian albergues.
Our "competitors" are already dancing in joy, free data and all, but thing is: if we catch them, they have to contribute all their stuff back as well. And no court is harsher than the court of pilgrim opinion, we we can shame them into it.

Ultreia 3.0
After this year's #Camino walks, we finally get to go back to making deep changes to the app. #CaminoNow is now #Ultreia (insert long story about legal threats and how much of an insane asshole assembly the "Camino App" world is here). Ultreia should be available in very early 2026, with a few super cool additions:
- Leaf & Shell Vegan and Vegetarian Camino Planning
- 100% Community, 100% good Netizen
- Better a11y design, [more...]
