UV Yard.

Something random for today. This is a test shot I've shot days ago, also in UV, for part of the yard. I wanted to experiment and apply the same technique I've done with the mint (fixing the WB using Curves) and the result here was almost the opposite of the mint image! The leaves went mute and parts where sun hit remained magenta!
I've tried applying this technique on images where WB was fixed in camera (using "custom WB" in-camera and a special target for calibration) but strangely nothing special happened and the colors didn't change drastically there, unlike in such images (which were taken with Auto WB setting).

UV Mint (RAW) - III.

The last one in this series. A recap: I've taken a UV shot, almost RAW and not edited, and I've applied a specific technique that I usually use on JPEG files to adjust the white balance. Now, in this shot, I've doubled the effect.
Just to give some background (for PS nerds and users): I usually use either the "Curves" or "Levels" command to adjust the white balance, by using the gray eyedropper tool in these tools and clicking at a specific point in the image (specifying that point is another story for another time). Typically, there is no difference between the two tools (Curves and Levels) when this is done but it happens that there are subtle differences now and then. In this image, I've applied the Curves first, and then from the same point I've also applied the Levels effect.
Now, I really call this "fluorescence image". It makes me feel as the alien in Predator! I do this more often!

UV Mint (RAW) - II.

A second version of yesterday's post. This time, I did something that I don't usually do but it was a fun experiment and I really liked the results.
Typically, there is (or are) some technique to adjust the white balance in editing phase out of the RAW editor. I use such techniques to fix JPG images (I have old PS so I don't have the "edit as RAW" option). Anyway, typically I'd use such techniques with images of people that need fixes and so on, but this time I've decided to use it here on this drastic image that was completely in magenta. The result was astonishing (and not the last, there is one I need to post later too). It feels this is a truly UV image where the subject is "fluorescent" against the background. Notice that this happened automatically - I didn't use masks or anything to focus the effect on one area of the image rather than the other; but a simple adjustment to the gray level.
You might wanna visit yesterday's post for comparison.

UV Mint (RAW).

Just for the nerdy folks (if any) - I thought some might be interested in seeing how a UV shot looks originally out of camera. Here it is. Nothing was processed here except of resizing (and adding the watermark).
Actually, I did few experiments and I think I produced some interesting results that I'll be posting in the coming days, hopefully.

*** Note that because Pixelfed doesn't support the color space, I had to use one of the filters (Azen) to approximate the original looks. Otherwise, the colors would appear dull.***

X-Mint.

Luckily, the HD worked again and I'm able to post today! (phew)
If you recall, I've made a shot of a branch of mint combining UV and visible light into one image. Here, I've picked one of the UV images and I had a plan to convert it to B&W, but with some twitching in the tones, it became like an x-ray image of some arm or something. Wasn't my intention first, but liked it and kept it as is. It seems also the image (which I've used to merge with the colored version) is shaky when I look at the tips; but maybe the flowers are just fluffy? 🤷🏻‍♂️

UV Abstract.

Almost forgot about this shot. I was actually testing some "white balancing" in UV, and I wasn't aiming to create a certain image. Anyway, when I started to check the shots and process some of it, I just liked the green tones here from the lemon tree. The shot was originally in landscape but I've cropped it in portrait.

Ultramint.

A little (and tedious) try to make a "bee vision" out of this plant, but it didn't work properly because, simply, the flowers are generally small and apparently don't bear a "UV fingerprint" like the oxeye and the sunflower I've shot before.
There are many ways to process UV images (simplest of all is simply to make them in B&W). Here, though, I've decided to work on channels, by displacing the Red and Green channels of the visible image, and replacing the Blue channel with the UV shot. Other techniques would have, probably, left the leaves green, unlike this one. Anyway, I'm not complaining!
