For this #FridayFlyday: today I was browsing around trying to ID a fly and inadvertently discovered these. Ant-mimicking flies, genus _Myrmecothea_. Now I've seen it all. https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/132235-Myrmecothea

A curious little orange creature for #FlyDay—one of the picture-winged flies?

It's #FlydayFriday! Here's a picture-winged fly (family Ulidiidae) I recently found in a community garden.
A closeup of a common picture-winged fly (Delphinia picta). These are sweet little flies that pose on leaves and turn around slowly while waving their brown/orange/white patterned wings. They feed on decaying plant matter, mostly.
Belatedly for #FlyFriday.

I have a new favorite fly. I thought it was a little mirid bug when I first saw it in the field, but no.
This is Stictomyia longicornis, a tiny picture-winged fly whose larvae feed on damaged cactus tissue.
Photographed at Seminole Canyon, Texas.
