Microbiotica Phase Ib Results

Flerie reports that portfolio company Microbiotica has announced positive Phase Ib data in ulcerative colitis. Mark Quick, Partner at Flerie, states the results validate the disease-modifying approach for this inflammatory bowel disease. This supports the company strategy of backing differentiated therapeutics.

Eating Gluten-Free In Rome | Condé Nast Traveler

Another favorite gricia came from Ristoro degli Angeli in one of Rome’s most charming neighborhoods, Garbatella. Filled with more locals than tourists, we were thrilled to discover this spot a few years ago. Like Cesare,…

It seems weird that they didn't measure known biomarkers of IBD, calprotectin, or c-reactive protein. I'm not an MD, and I know the patients are supposed to be in remission, but wouldn't those be two things you measure in this type of patient population and this group of diseases??

Alkalinized Filtered Water Induces Changes in the Gut Microbiome in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Objective: This study evaluated the effects of filtered, alkalinized water on inflammation and intestinal dysbiosis in individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Methods: We conducted a three-month, two-arm, randomized intervention study involving 46 patients with IBD in remission. Participants were divided into two groups: one consumed filtered water from an active filtering device, and the control group consumed water from a mock device. Blood and stool samples were collected before and after the intervention. We assessed antioxidant capacity and circulating cytokine levels from plasma. Gene expression levels of inflammatory mediators were determined using mRNA from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). The microbial composition of fecal samples was characterized by qPCR analysis using primers targeting 16S rRNA genes. Results: Consumption of alkalinized filtered water significantly reduced IL1B gene expression in PBMCs. Furthermore, subjects drinking alkalinized filtered water exhibited a consistent, albeit not statistically significant, decrease in circulating IL-1beta and significantly lower levels of IL-4 than controls. Microbiome analysis revealed that the levels of the Bacteroides fragilis Group were significantly lower in subjects consuming tap water than in those consuming filtered water. Conclusion: These changes suggest that consuming alkalinized water for three months leads to an improved inflammatory status compared with consuming tap water. ### Competing Interest Statement The authors have declared no competing interest. Years ago when I started my web page for #crohns & #Ulcerativecolitis, back in the Stone Age when you had to write your own html, I’d get 2-3 emails a day touting cures, often offering me a ground floor marketing opportunity. The most entertaining was a home kit for a blood filtering process similar to hemodialysis from some Russian guy. Drinking aloe vera was another popular one.

I’ve had four colonoscopies since I’ve had to deal with #UlcerativeColitis — 3 through #CommunityHealthNetwork and 1 now through #RiverviewHealth. My insurance says I now owe $442 for the colonoscopy (fine) and almost $1800 for the anaesthesia (!). Never before have I had to pay so much to be put under…

Lots of phone calls to make tomorrow to find out wtf happened.

A few weeks back, I had a colonoscopy to check the status of my #UlcerativeColitis. This was my fourth colonoscopy and I’m happy to say I’m in #remission.

I’ve still noticed despite feeling better some #tenesmus and unfortunately, but not surprisingly, #coffee is the culprit. Even healthy folks without #UC know coffee makes you poop. Was hoping it wasn’t the case but looks like #tea is going to be my go-to.

Still worth it.

What a flare up in #ulcerativecolitis causes, is many, constant visits to the loo. Then everything starts to normalise and you feel like you haven't been for weeks.
There are odd side effects that happen to me due to the #ulcerativecolitis flares too. I have noticed that I can mysteriously overheat and sweat at night, in winter. In the last week or so, as I'm nearly over it, I have been feeling very cold instead.
