After days of pressure, #UGent rector Petra De Sutter is finally coming to our open spokescouncil inside the occupied Refaat Alareer - ufo- building.
Last week, the #university shut the door on public dialogue, unilaterally ended negotiations, and responded to student protest with an eviction order. They wanted closed-door talks with a small delegation. We refused.
An #academic #boycott of #Israeli institutions is not an internal issue to be managed behind closed doors. It is a topic that concerns the entire university community, and society at large.
Two years after UGent promised to cut 13 institutional ties, only ONE has actually been terminated.
On Monday, we demand public #accountability:
no more delays,
no more empty promises,
no more complicity.

De Universiteit Gent heeft vandaag de actievoerders die sinds 22 april een gebouw op Campus Coupure bezetten formeel gevraagd om de bezetting stop te zetten. De universiteit geeft de bezetters tijd tot vrijdag 8 mei om 10 uur om vrijwillig te vertrekken.

Happy to see #UGent being reminded that genocide is a valid reason to stop all cooperations. I'll take the inconvenience with a big smile :-)
In Gent is een 100-tal pro-Palestijnse activisten begonnen aan de bezetting van de universiteitscampus aan de Coupure. Ze eisen dat de UGent verder werk maakt van een volledige academische Israëlische boycot. Vorig jaar was er ook al een bezetting van het UFO-gebouw. Die werd uiteindelijk na een maand beëindigd, na een juridische procedure. De UGent liet een gerechtsdeurwaarder komen om vaststellingen te doen.
