Following on from my last post showing Uçhisar Kalesi, Türkiye, here's a selection of views from the top. The entire region is cross-crossed with these gorges - very striking scenery, wonderful walking countryside. From stop the 'castle' one can really see how prevalent the gorges are - stretching in every direction - and get a unique view of the terrain from such an elevation. On foot, the gorges feel unlike any other place I've walked, and although there are fewer 'fairy chimneys' around Uçhisar the signs of former habitation can still be seen in the carved windows and doors. These fairy chimneys were inhabited by people for a long time - the odd one or two further afield do still have people living in them - and elsewhere, there are millennia-old cathedrals carved into the walls of the gorges. In one shot can be seen Mount Erciyes (Erciyes Dağı): though some 55km away, the now-dormant volcano still makes a distinct impression on the horizon.

Uçhisar Kalesi - Uçhisar Castle. Türkiye. The large rock cone has dozens of openings into the interior, with many carved rooms and passageways. Can go inside the structure, enter the rooms, climb steps, and get to the summit. The views from the top are amazing (maybe I'll share some from the top when I have more energy to write descriptions).
