Logging company is harassing Pano Arawak over land rights #Indigene #Peru
Tensions are rising in #Ucayali region as a timber company is seeking to overturn official recognition of a local community, prompting the latter to fear for their territorial rights & their safety. Pano Arawak leaders say they are being harassed by the company Nematsa. The company is making criminal accusations of illegal logging against them, & so paralysing the process of indigenous land titling.

#IACHR takes measures to defend indigenous in voluntary isolation #Peru #Indigene #Menschenrechte
The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR), an agency of the Organization of American States (OAS), has approved a ruling intended to protect the rights of Kakataibo indigenous in voluntary isolation. It awarded cautionary measures in benefit of the members of the Kakataibo in the Indigenous Reserve, which extends over the #Ucayali, #Huánuco and #Loreto regions.

En la décima sesión de la audiencia de apelación, se enfatizó los graves impactos en las viudas, familias y comunidad, considerando el marco normativo de protección de los pueblos.
Ratificar la sentencia condenatoria en primera instancia e incrementar la reparación civil para las familias de los líderes y autoridades indígenas de la comunidad nativa Alto Tamaya Saweto fueron los puntos centrales.

The Constitutional Tribunal (TC) has ruled unconstitutional a municipal ordinance of the #Ucayali province that denies the existence of indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation. The decision was a response to a demand presented in 2023 by the Lima and Callao Association of Sociologists, in association with #AIDESEP and the Instituto de Defensa Legal (IDL).
