Ubuntu 26.04 LTS development started
Canonical has released the brand new Ubuntu 25.10 Questing Quokka version, which brings a lot of improvements thanks to the updated packages.
A new version of Ubuntu, called 26.04 Resolute Raccoon, has started its development a week after the abovementioned Ubuntu version was released. This version is reported to have GNOME 50 desktop and a future version of Linux.
The release schedule is known, and can be accessed here. We won’t be releasing the release schedule here, as we don’t usually update the schedule here, but you can still access the linked Discourse thread about it. However, we promise that we’ll release new updates regarding this version of Ubuntu, like beta version announcements and final version release.
Also, the repository has been initialized as of today, and it can be accessed under the following sections:
The final release is set to be scheduled for April 2026, and we are hopeful that many major systems will adopt the usage of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, should the migration become possible. As this is a very important milestone after Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat, we are doubly excited about the next LTS version, which will be a huge improvement over the current LTS.
Please note that, when we develop software, we only test them under Ubuntu LTS versions for longevity.
