Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will no longer ship OpenJDK 19

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Jammy Jellyfish was shipped with OpenJDK 19 as one of the supported Java open-source JDK toolkit. However, what was recently planned today has drawn our attention, and we felt the need to warn users using OpenJDK 19 on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

By October 2025, OpenJDK 19, which was EOL on March 23rd, 2023, will no longer be available on the official repositories for the Jammy Jellyfish release. This means that you will no longer be able to download and install OpenJDK 19. Any Java application should work fine with either OpenJDK 17 or 21, unless issues crop up.

You can take a look at this announcement for more information regarding the OpenJDK 19 sunset on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

People joke about installing Python environments (https://xkcd.com/1987/), but I'm looking at #Typescript and... am I misunderstanding, but `sudo apt install npm` (on #Ubuntu2204) gives me a #node version (12.22) that isn't compatible with installing the typescript package (EBADENGINE required: node >=14.17). So I should install latest node using #nvm, which installs via curl of a script which git clones its own repo to my ~/.npm, does this sounds right so far? #newb #seekingAdvice

CVE-2024-9680 allows for code execution in the Firefox browser. It is highly recommended to update the #Firefox #Browser. However, #Ubuntu claims that their latest two versions 22.04 and 24.04 are not affected by the vulnerability.

For #Thunderbird, only the latest Ubuntu version is secure - version 24.04.

No statement on their latest release 24.10.

Edit: Context in comment. Apparently the firefox package is empty in 22.04 and later. Thus, the vulnerability is not present.

for anyone upgrading ubuntu server, you might also encounter this strange docker bug where it deletes the docker0 interface, fix it with

I discovered some weirdo issues on my #ubuntu2204 where running #syncthing for a few minutes the #swap would go past it's 2gb limit. So I changed the amount of swap to 8gb. But then the computer would eventually freeze and immediately restart. I don't understand why. Anyhoo, I figured I could run syncthing as a #docker. Interestingly I was able to just run it on the same data folder. That was such a cool thing. I just mapped the folders on the docker-compose.yml and it worked.
