The remains of another Maya city have been discovered in the jungle of northern Petén Department of Guatemala,, a dozen miles from the important archaeological site of Uaxactun. The city, known as Los Abuelos, covers an area of 6 square miles, dates from the Maya Middle Preclassic period (800 BC-500BC), and contains a 108 foot high pyramid, murals, mouments, as well as an unique canal.
