Well for those who don't keep up with politics now there is a bill called the "Parents Decide Act" going to the House of Representatives that will force Operating Systems to verify ages of users.

I have already emailed one of my senators and my representative saying if they vote yes I will vote for their opposition in the next election to do whatever I can to prevent this bill from becoming reality.
