Tried to make a new friend at the park today. There were a surprising number of hawks hanging around, yelling, flitting between the trees, and circling around in the breeze. At one point there were four of them up in the air at once.

A young hawk (possibly a Cooper's Hawk?) has been hanging around my back yard lately. All the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks have been scurrying around preparing for winter and likely look rather tasty. On a few occasions the hawk has been observed landing on the brush pile and staring down at the smaller animals that are out of its reach.
This morning it took a more direct approach, but still left empty-handed.
In fun local wildlife news, an opossum just strolled out of the woods and stuck its head in a drain pipe. It just sat there like that for a minute or two, but my security camera stopped recording once the opossum stopped moving. And then it backed out, turned around, and walked back into the woods.
The wildlife survey of the new house also includes this fox who apparently makes regular circuits of the area.
