It made me wonder just how far back non-comedy female assassin/spy/secret agent movies go. The earliest examples of this being mainstream that I can think of off the top of my head are La Femme Nikita and The Long Kiss Goodnight, both of which are 1990s movies.

So it has been a good 30 years, and there is now a lot of movies of that kind, from Salt and Red Sparrow to Elektra and Peppermint.

The irony is that Three Days of the Condor really is one. The original novel was Six Days of the Condor.

I wonder what the novel and cinema tickets to the movie cost in 1975. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that people paid more for half as many condor days.

#Fortress (2021) is an abysmal movie.

The protagonist, with whom we are apparently meant to sympathize, being a cryptocurrency scammer trying to fleece his parent for more money, was not a good start, and it went downhill from there. Pretty much everyone's acting was either completely over the top or wooden as Hell. The plot was ludicrous; the ubiquitous special effects mist and random camera angles, annoying.

The final straw, at which point I just stopped and deleted it from the TiVo, was when the character who had been speaking with a vaguely Australian accent for the entire movie until that point apologized to another character for putting on a British accent.

Apparently, they made a sequel at the same time. Avoid both.

One of the FediVerse's own reviewers, @beer_mat_movies , was adding to the anecdotes of audiences that were wholly movie reviewers just the other day.

The review itself is at the top of that thread.

@[email protected] 100% of the audience at my screening were seeing that film because they had to in order to review it. The maths is quite easy to work out, given I was alone in that screening.

It's interesting how the general public's idea of a #GlobalThermonuclearWar, rooted in fiction, has changed.

#OnTheBeach is definitely an example of the idea of MAD, and #TomLehrer's "We'll all go together when we go!", that was present right up through #WarGames in 1983.

Then in 1984 with #TheTerminator the idea returned that with just enough 'duck and cover!' we might survive a thing that in reality we could not. (They had to make the T-1000 in #TerminatorGenisys ridiculously pause to do banter with its target in order to make it evadable by a human. Killing machines would kill the species stone dead very effectively.)

Heh! In a figurative sense, at least, you are not alone.

All of the people suggesting this probably have mixed feelings about being vindicated, and about what they might have suggested in jest actually being true.

The major question is what fraction of the people in the screening with you were also reviewers. That has become significant for the release of this particular movie, given that there were no advance screenings for reviewers and the low opening night audience figures.

It's #Hasbro's fault.

A generation grew up watching #TransformersAgeOfExtinction (2014) where #KelseyGrammer's character chases 'alien terrorists' who are in the U.S.A. 'illegally', with an anonymous government-backed paramilitary; snatches and imprisons them without regard for status; threatening a child to get to xyr parent along the way; killing bystanders; and ships them off to a torture prison run by a foreign leader that xe has made a pact with.

The best part, given what news/magazine reviewers have had to suffer today, is that they can write the reviews ahead of the movie even being made, or even greenlit.

Google's AI refused; but I just asked #Bing to write a review and #MicrosoftCopilot just did so.

It gives the movie 4/5 stars.

So it's only a matter of time until the #Wikipedia article and Movies #StackExchange questions. (-:
