@Geri A case in Manchester, where the accused is charged with "five counts of rape, four counts of assault by penetration etc", and has been freed on bail has been scheduled to be heard in 4th September 2028!
The judge said "It is with a heavy heart that I adjourn any trial for an amount of three years, but that's the state of play at the moment.
"It is a stark contrast to a position we would be in if this defendant was in custody, we would be trying the case in the summer of next year."
He told the defendant to stay in contact with his solicitors who will try to get an earlier trial date, should one become available.
