Should employees have the right to take pay in lieu of holidays ?

At the end of every year there is always an argument over taking unused holiday or carrying it over until the following year, or converting holiday to pay.

Some employees need the pay more than they need their holiday entitlement, especially in the public sector where holiday entitlement has been increased instead of pay.

UPDATE on my first day back at work after two weeks off just to use up my annual leave allowance, since still had 18 days left to take off (or lose) before the end of the year, although I’ll carry five of them into 2023 and take three between Xmas and New Year…now where was I?
Oh yes, first day back was fine. No crises had arisen in my absence, or if they had, someone else had dealt with them. This is why I love my job. #WFH #UKEmployment

Tesco customer services called security on me when I tried to buy a load of gift certificates for our employees.

I must have looked well shifty.

Fortunately I had the employee emails with me saying which cards they wanted and the security guard asked if he could have a job at our place 😎

Company gift cards.
In the UK companies can give employees £50.00 gift cards free of tax.
They can be given for Christmas, for New Year, for birthdays, anniversaries.
Companies should make full use of this tax relief to help their employees this winter.
