We need to look beyond the particulars of this case to the larger principles at stake here.
What disturbs me is the legality of a minister stripping a UK citizen of their nationality.
Quite aside from the worrying precedent that this establishes for any UK citizen who either holds or is eligible for dual nationality, we should press for a change in the law so that no UK citizen can ever be deprived of their nationality by administrative fiat.
Any deprivation of citizenship should be decided by a court, and only executed in cases of egregious and intentional dishonesty in applications for citizenship. Ministerial warnings of "public safety" should not suffice for such a drastic change in legal status.
UK citizenship law as a whole needs reform, but that's a topic for another post.
