Every time an University administrator says “we have”, “we remain strong” and so on, they mean: we know some of you will see your research and academic life devastated but there’s nothing we are willing to do.

The latest episode, today, in the latest admin email, in response to the UK government’s research councils pausing their funding schemes “temporarily” to “realign” their “strategic priorities” to foster growth. As if we all didn’t know they are short of money and desperate to grow the UK economy to pay the state debt and earn cookie points towards reelection.
