@NoahCarver I often ask myself this question, particularly when I run across abominations that #UEB have foisted on us. My favorite (not) is chemotherapy, which now looks like che mother apy.
Hey #Braille community! I’m using #SaoMaiBraille and need help with formatting. I’m trying to prevent the running head from showing on the first page of a book, as per UEB (Unified English Braille) rules in the US. According to UEB, the first page of text shouldn’t have a running head, but I’m struggling to figure out how to make that happen in Sao Mai. Any tips or workarounds?

Old habits die hard! Working on lesson 12 drills for my Braille proofreading course, and my brain keeps insisting "6-can" should be read as "6-3". After years of reading English Braille American Edition (EBAE), the transition to Unified English Braille (UEB) still trips me up sometimes. Had to double-check the drill answers to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Anyone else find themselves occasionally slipping back into old Braille conventions? #Braille #UEB #EBAE #BrailleLiteracy #blind #BrailleProofreading
I've been adding more symbols to our company's internal #Braille translator, and I'm again reminded of why I dislike #UEB so much. In this case, the official documentation doesn't list dot patterns for advanced mathematical concepts, like shapes, angle measures, congruence, etc. It took much more web searching to find these than it should have.

I have some free time and mental energy at the moment so I'm going to try and compare this person's #Yiddish #braille proposal to the other two proposed ones, to #HebrewBraille, #UEB, etc.

not that I'm qualified to make any decisions😨 but they thought it would be helpful to have feedback from someone who knew both the Yiddish alphabet and Braille to some degree.

This site is interesting, it displays in a very simple visual tables from the dropdown language list.

PS: One more imortant thing I should add: Just like sign language, Braille is NOT
'universal'.

Yes, Braille is used all over the world, but which characters, accents, etc are assigned to which dot pattern may be very different from language to language.

My comments upthread re #contractedBraille apply to #UEB, aka Unified English Braille, now in use across (all?) English-speaking nations.

6 dots = 64 possible one-cell characters

@plars Thanks Paul! I found a lot of resources at BANA, ICEB and RNIB. I see a lot of .brf files, which will be great when I figure out how to read BRF files on my Braille eReader. I was hoping to find a text document though, something that would have a table with the symbol in one column and the corresponding braille dots in the other. A trivial example would be something like . (period) is dots 2, 5,6. If you hear of anything let me know, but I'll keep looking. #Braille #UEB
