A *really* impressive awards showing for #UBuffalo
at #SIGMOD2025 .

Zhuoyue got a SIGMOD best paper, Atri (and Ex-Buffalonian Hung) got a PODS test of time. Then, the true star, #UB_CSE PhD alum Mahmoud Abo Khamis (now at RelationalAI) not only got the aforementioned test of time award, but also best papers in BOTH SIGMOD and PODS.

I'm jealous, but in a good way. My colleagues and our the students in our dept are awesome :)

Update. When the #UBuffalo cancelled its #Elsevier #BigDeal, "faculty were supportive…There was frustration expressed with the current structure of the publishing industry, particularly with the exorbitant pricing of journal subscriptions…Data showed a decrease in usage on the #ScienceDirect platform and [an affordable] increase in requests for unavailable articles" through other channels described in the article.

People with opioid use disorder who have hepatitis C virus were twice as likely to be successfully treated and cured if they received facilitated telemedicine treatment at their opioid treatment program.

Props to Drs. (Poonam) Kumari and (Carl) Nuessle, each on a successful #ThesisDefense today. Dr. Kumari, who developed new techniques for searching for mappable datasets in #DataLakes, will be starting at #BridgewaterState University next month. Meanwhile Dr. Nuessle's experiments opened a path to vastly simplifying power management in #Android. Grats to both on this huge milestone! #UBOdin #UBuffalo #BuffaloPLDB

UB released a statement Sunday about the upcoming appearance of Michael Knowles. The university said it supports the “fundamental right of its community and invited guests to peacefully express their views and opinions – even when others disagree.”
