Damn, "Prehistoric Planet" documentary series are cool! A lot of well-drawn dinosaurs, a music from Hans Zimmerman and a voice translation to Russian from famous animal stories' narrator Nikolay Drozdov
For this #fossilfriday, a Gorgosaurus libratus at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology! Gorgosaurus was a smaller, faster, and older relative of Tyrannosaurus rex.
Did you know that in Alberta we have found specimens of five different tyrannosaur species?

This just made my day! I've seen this fossil and it's truly amazing. So glad to see they've finally solved the mystery and identified the species of tyrannosaur.
Researchers discover new tyrannosaur species in ‘duelling dinosaurs’ fossil
"The “duelling dinosaurs” fossil, which reveals a triceratops in battle with a medium-sized tyrannosaur, was unearthed in Montana by commercial fossil hunters in 2006, and dates to shortly before the asteroid strike that ended the reign of the dinosaurs 66m years ago."
"Now researchers say a detailed analysis of the fighting tyrannosaur reveals it is not simply a juvenile T rex, as many have thought, but an adult of a different species, Nanotyrannus lancensis."
Highly recommend if you're in the area taking the time to visit.
A new early tyrannosaur from Mongolia - Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, the 'dragon prince of Mongolia' - reshapes how we understand tyrannosaur evolution!
This species bridges early and late forms, showing how changes in growth timing shaped the line from small hunters to T. rex. It also reveals that tyrannosaurs first evolved in Asia before spreading to North America and back again.
"My name is Sue, how do you do?"
Today's Flickr photo with the most hits- the famous Tyrannosaur in the Field Museum, Chicago.
Several non-avian #dinosaur species described in 2025: the unique two-clawed therizinosaur #Duonychus, the 10-metre eusauropod Jinchuanloong, the swift Mongolian #tyrannosaur #Khankhuuluu and the Egyptian carcharodontosaurid #Tameryraptor! Read more about them in this new post about dinosaurological discoveries from the first half of 2025.

Meet Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, the “Dragon Prince of Mongolia”! This small tyrannosauroid was described by a team led by University of Calgary palaeontologists Jared Voris and Dr. Darla Zelenitsky, together with Dr. François Therrien of the Royal Tyrrell Museum. It represent an intermediate form between the early, small tyrannosauroids and their later enormous cousins!
