A bit disappointing walk in the woods today. I hoped I would get my first goshawk photos of the year but I saw and heard pretty much nothing. Just a woodpecker or two in the distance and an occasional small bird high in the canopy. After a while, I resorted to looking for juniper berries so that I could get a photo of at least something.

But before heading home, I decided to visit a local community garden and its bird feeders. I don't care for photographing birds at feeders, but it's January so I can't be too picky. There were a lot of birds buzzing around the feeders: goldfinches, greenfinches, siskins, blackbirds, various tits, and – surprisingly – a robin. I took a lot of photos but unfortunately I'm not happy with any of them. This ordinary portrait of a female blackbird might be the best one.
