This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Tupandactylus

In 1997 Campos & Kellner named a skull and partial lower jaw Tapejara imperator.

In 2003 another skull was named Tapejara navigans by Frey, et al.

In 2007 Tapejara navigans was renamed Ingridia imperator by Unwins, et al.

In 2011 T. imperator and I. imperator were reclassified as Tupandactylus, T. imperator and T. navigans

In 2021, a far more complete skeleton was found on T. navigans, its actually a sexually dimorphic female T. imperator.

From the vault: my Nature cover art from 2022, featuring Tupandactylus, regarding the paper "Pterosaur melanosomes support signalling functions for early feathers," from Cincotta et al: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9046085/

Zooming into my 2022 Nature cover, featuring Tupandactylus. This painting was commissioned by Cincotta et al for their paper describing multiple feathers and their colours from a pterosaur fossil!

#Eopteranodon was previously thought to be related to #toothless #pterosaurs like #Pteranodon, but is now placed comfortably in #Tapejaridae with pterosaurs like #Tupandactylus and #Sinopterus!

This is an idea I had the other day: #SirPentious if he was a Tupandactylus navigans! I only thought of this because I saw a similarity between the shape of T. navigans’ crest, and one side of Pentious’… hood?

I apparently really like that Tupandactylus imperator sketch, because I’ve made two things from it! The one in the last image isn’t available on my Etsy store, but if you want one, or something similar, you can find others like it in said store (link in bio), or you can commission me directly via private post!
Any engagement really helps, so if you like things like this, please favorite and share it around! I’d really appreciate it!!

Being a heavy collector of the Mattel Jurassic World line, it’s not often I give attention to their fantastic line of minis despite having collected a good portion of them ever since the line’s launch in 2018. In fact, this is probably my first review of these particular types of figures. 2023 has been one of their better years as far as the mini […]
