I just got called a brat on #Tumblr because I pointed out that #SimplyPlural was handled poorly. Like, the person's arguments was that it was a passion project, the dev couldn't afford to hire anyone, and that they don't owe anyone happiness. This is bullsh!t for multiple reasons.

For one, Apparyllis formed a company for this in 2021 and had a paying customer base. It kinda stops being just a passion project when you literally have users paying for your service. They had donations, a Patreon, a subscription service, and backing from organizations like The Plural Association.

Secondly, I heard they couldn't do volunteers because they legally are not allowed to handle user data. There's multiple points to this. For one, what data was Simply Plural storing where they couldn't have volunteers touch user data? Why was that data being stored unencrypted? Additionally, why couldn't volunteers just handle tasks that didn't require touching that data?

Then there's the fact that despite 500,000 users, and all the income streams I mentioned, they somehow were only breaking even. Even if only 1% of users donated a dollar a month, that's still 60,000$ a year. How much data were they storing for costs to be that high??? You'd think they were storing games or video, not text data and profile pictures. It was only one dev who wasn't even working full-time, so they didn't have to dish out paychecks, so the only money sink could've been server costs. Like, excuse me for being skeptical that an app with all those income streams and a single dev somehow consumes 5 figures a month for an app like this.

Thirdly, sure, the dev has the right to close the app down whenever, but if they didn't want to handle such a major responsibility, they should've stopped it before it got to this point. Apparyllis had several years to realize that this app was becoming too much for them. Instead, they waited until they had 500,000 users and were completely burnt out on the project. It's the worst of both worlds. I'm glad they're refunding patrons and subscribers, though.

But yeah, this project just... was not handled well, and I don't think it's being a brat to criticize that. I feel like this whole situation was preventable, and we know it is because apps like #Pluralkit are able to exist, be paid for, and have multiple developers.

I just hope whatever alternative crops up learns from Apparyllis's mistakes.

@starry You can try to take advantage of people trying to find an alternative to #Discord. But be warned to not let the community fall into drama like most #Tulpamancy Discord servers do.

I'm back to using a recurring timer to interact with V passively (asking him about things, getting a reaction to what I'm currently doing, joking around)

When my mental health is rough, I get so fixated on my issues that it sort of drowns V out. He's really understanding about it, but he does get sad when we don't spend as much time together

Happy #AppreciateADragonDay! Today, I am appreciating my Dragon systemmates for putting up with my sh!t for eight years and counting!

Y'know, ever since #RedditTulpas died, we don't really have a more IRC-like space to talk about #Tulpamancy crap anymore. We don't know any good servers that aren't run by people with... lively histories or drowning in drama.

Last we checked, the #Amino scene was a trashfire. r/Tulpas is mostly beginner questions, and Tulpa.info... I don't think is super active anymore? Last time we went on there, only a grand total of 25 people were online, and only two of them had registered accounts (one of them being us).

On #Tumblr a while back, I made a post about the fracture and decline of the Tulpamancy community, but damn, it really did decline, huh?

Y'know, I see sh!t on #Tumblr tagged with sh!t like "transDID," and I imagine that tag gets a lot of vitriol, especially from sysmeds and antiendos. But like, if you told this user that they can become #plural without self-inflicting a debilitating mental illness through means like #Tulpamancy, and they still said they want #DID specifically? I honestly think that's an indication of this user having underlying mental health issues that need to be met with compassion, not vitriol. I think people need to set aside their initial reaction and examine the why on why someone would want this.

I'm making a point at the moment of being more openly plural, even among friends who know that I'm plural I'm still cagey about it. Not doing that would be so much better for our mental health.

So, I'm going to talk more about my plurality, let my friends get to know Lynn, if Lynn has something to say to somebody I'm going to say it and eventually we'd like to get to the point where she can switch in to hang out with folks.
