Finally took the time to upgrade my #TrueNAS setup at home, from 24.10 to 25.04. I was about to upgrade to 25.10 when I read that my GPU (a cheap GT 710) was no longer supported.
Welp, that upgrade will have to wait for the Intel A310 I ordered.

#SelfHosting

A friend of mine want to move away from Big Tech and migrate to self-hosted TrueNAS. We were thinking of a setup like this:

- 2x 128 GB SSD (in RAID1) for TrueNAS system
- 2x 1 or 2 TB SSD (in RAID1) for data
- 16 or 32 GB RAM in order to run some apps

Ideally this all should run on a (low energy) mini-PC. I have been trying to find one that fits 4 SSD (normal and/or M.2)., but was not able to find one.

Do such mini-PCs even exist or do we need to start looking a small-factor desktop-PCs instead?

We are very much looking for recommendations. Thx!

(Backups will be done on an old QNAP I have laying around, so that topic is also covered).

I will legit setup Enabling HTTPS certs in Tailscale just to get this #$&%# icon to go away.

I know the traffic is encrypted but stuff like this bugs me enough to take on a whole new project.

So I decided to create a self hosted search engine on my NAS. Turns out its not as difficult as you might think.
I also get to opt out of who I use in my search engine. And best of all I own my own data.

So what do we think? I'll just keep it private of course on my internal network. I'll access it via tail-scale remotely.

@jimsalter They're going into #TrueNAS along with some other long-in-the-tooth drives. While they fail fairly regularly, (1/year?) they're cheap to replace. I always have a hot spare or two.

@Danathar

Today I was working on a new project, move from Synology to TrueNAS.

Now I managed to install Immich and NextCloud. As alternative for Drive and Photos.

I just came agross this link. Has anyone have a good tip for me in this process?

This weekend I finally had some time to get my TrueNAS server up and running with Immich on it.

Now my photos are replicated across two devices and the only thing I need now is the remote backup, which it will be another TrueNAS server at the office.

Also, it's the first time I had the guts to delete all my photos from Google Photos.

This guide walks through the exact sequence I used to deploy Nextcloud on TrueNAS SCALE Community Edition with NPMplus handling SSL and reverse proxying, with all the working settings with no detours, no "try this and see if it works" steps, and no recovery sections you'll only need if something breaks.
