Last year I grew two turmeric plants. I tried to overwinter one, which is sometimes successful, but it died back completely in the dry indoor air. Out of spoons, I just ignored the pot in my living room.

It hadn't been watered since December. I was planning to dump the spent soil and no-doubt decomposed remnants of rhizome.

Last Monday I walked past the pot and was stunned to see a sprout. So I watered it, heavily and repeatedly. Today it's 16" tall. #IndoorGardening #TropicalPlants #Gardening

There's something almost reptilian about a *Nepenthes maxima × northiana* pitcher — the bold marbled pattern of deep crimson and amber, the heavily ridged peristome, and those fierce fringe teeth along the wings make it look like something straight out of prehistory. 🪰

This hybrid combines the vigour of *N. maxima* with the dramatic, flared peristome of *N. northiana*, resulting in pitchers that are both striking and functional. The ribbed collar at the pitcher opening secretes nectar to lure insects to their doom — elegant carnivory at its finest.

Er zit iets bijna reptiels aan een *Nepenthes maxima × northiana* beker — het opvallende gemarmerde patroon van diep karmozijn en amber, de zwaar geribbelde peristoom en die scherpe franjetanden langs de vleugels doen je denken aan iets uit een ver verleden. 🪰

Deze hybride combineert de groeikracht van *N. maxima* met de dramatische, uitlopende peristoom van *N. northiana*, wat resulteert in bekers die zowel indrukwekkend als functioneel zijn. De geribbelde rand rond de opening scheidt nectar af om insecten naar hun einde te lokken — elegante vleesetende plant op zijn best.
