Thanks to advice from you helpful folks on this app, I learned that my woodchip-heavy #compost would make good mulch for my fruit trees. I started with the mango, adding some organic fertilizer to the base, topping with compost and fallen leaves from the tree. There are plenty of prolific established mango trees in our neighborhood that produce with no help. Ours is young and last year a lot of the fruit fell before it ripened. Let’s see what happens this year. #gardening #TropicalFruit #zone10

Okay, we’ve got four sprouted seeds here. They took 3-4 weeks to germinate and it’ll probably be another several months until they’re large enough to be moved into their own containers. I was surprised to see a durian among the watermelons at my largest local grocery store. It’s not located in an area with much diversity, shall we say. IOW, there were many shoppers there today with flag-themed apparel.

Someone gave my father in law some custard apple seeds which he passed on to us. I’ve actually never tried this fruit, but I’ve been curious about it and following a fruit company in Miami that sells them in expensive exotic fruit boxes. (I haven’t made a purchase, just been admiring.) I just started several seeds in a container and now must wait weeks for them to germinate and then 3-5 years for the fruit. #zone10 #TropicalFruit #Florida #gardening

@joeyomahoney planted this dragonfruit cactus, training it up a palm tree a few years ago and it finally made its first flower, but we missed it! It’s a night bloomer. It still looks cool in its waning state and maybe we’ll get dragonfruit? I’ve only tried it once and was surprised at how bland it was. Seems like something that brightly colored shouldn’t be bland. #zone10 #Florida #TropicalFruit #gardening
