In the history of the
#revolts against
#slavery, enslaved
#women must not be reduced to the role of passive victims of colonial violence. This is particularly evident in the case of Carlota
#Lucumí, who heroically defended herself against her oppressors with a machete in her hand and is still considered a revolutionary
#symbol of Cuba today.
Long before the Cuban Revolution, the so-called
#Triunvirato #Revolution shaped the history of the island, during which numerous
#slaves rose up against their owners. It was a large movement that took hold of several plantations. For once, the rebellion was led by a woman who is now revered as a hero and
#resistance fighter in
#Cuba:
#Carlota.
