Sewingshields trig point from this morning... trying not to look cold!! 🤣 It was just fingers (mainly thumbs) that were the problem, and this could be related to a combo of strong/cold winds and Pacer-Poles? Fabulous route though, from Housesteads to Sewingshields, looping up around Haughton Common, and joining the Pennine Way back to the Wall. Beyond Housesteads, we only met farmers and sheepdogs all day! 😅

24/12/2025 - Black Hill trigpoint.

Evening walk on Christmas Eve. Quiet on Bennachie tonight. A dark walk round to Black Hill trigpoint and then back over the tops. We sat and had our tea halfway round. Below freezing but little wind. The stars were so good. We took our time and didn't rush, we never do.

15/11/2025 - A visit to Hill of Foudland in Aberdeenshire. I headed up this hill last week for early morning. Today we went back for a bit of evening dark. Bus out and back. We had tea on top. Just us and the trigpoint. Cold but not as cold as forecast. Nice walk though I felt tired today.

08/11/2025 - Mrs Spaceways is away this weekend so I woke early and went for a little adventure. I took the Ember bus out to Colpy to walk up Hill of Foudland in Aberdeenshire. I've not used Ember buses before. I was proper impressed. Much cheaper than the normal bus and easy to change ticket with a couple of clicks to get an earlier bus back. They are all electric too. They get a big thumbs up from me. Walk was nice if a little misty.

18/10/2025 - Sunset visit to Culardoch. It's a good walk of about 12 miles there and back to this hill near Braemar in Aberdeenshire. Weather held and the wind wasn''t too bad. Bit chilly on the top as we had our tea and waited for sunset. Great long walk back in the dark.

First run back in the yUK and Paddy bagged his first trig point. Got a bit lost in the over grown heather and bracken which made keeping on the right trail a bit hard.

A white-painted concrete trig point stands prominently on the summit of Wildbank Hill, with a backpack and walking poles resting against it. The rocky ground around the trig point is dotted with patches of grass and short heather (Calluna vulgaris). Beyond, there is an expansive view westwards towards Manchester, with the city skyline faintly visible on the horizon beneath a sky of broken clouds and blue patches.

25/07/2025 - Friday evening walk after work. A visit to Pressendye, a fine hill in Aberdeenshire. Quiet on the hill this evening which is what I was needing. The late sunshine was lovely on the purple heather. We found a spot out of the wind and had our tea. Dark on the way back.

In total, there are seven in Glasgow, usually placed on or near hill tops, and many more in the surrounding countryside, so if you're looking for something to do with the kids in the summer holidays, maybe bagging a trig point or two might be just the thing to keep them occupied for a few hours here and there.

From each of the more than 6,000 trig points across the UK, you can see at least two others, and by using trigonometry (which trig is short for), you can accurately map the entire country. There's also a hobby of trig pillar bagging associated them, where people try to visit as many of then as possible.
