"Indigenous Protector Movement is activated in response to the ongoing #ICE presence and the escalating #authoritarian actions of the federal government in our communities.

These spaces are currently serving as #CommunitySupport and staging locations for volunteers, #patrollers, and #LegalObservers. Individuals are welcome to stop in to stock their vehicles with supplies, warm up, and connect with others doing this work. Coffee and food are available throughout the day.

Beginning today, there will be daily #KnowYourRights trainings facilitated by #NDNCollective:

In addition, tribal representatives are on site providing rapid #TribalID support for those who need it. This is a coordinated, community-led response grounded in care, protection, and #solidarity. "Elaine Miles was walking to a bus stop in Redmond to go to Target, she said, when four men wearing masks and vests with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement label stepped out of two black SUVs with no front plates and pressed her for her ID.

"Miles, an Indigenous actor best known for her roles in '#NorthernExposure,' '#SmokeSignals,' '#Wyvern' and '#TheLast OfUs,' handed them her tribal ID from the #ConfederatedTribesOfTheUmatilla Indian Reservation in #Oregon.

"Federal government agencies recognize tribal ID as a valid form of identification, and Miles has used it to travel back and forth to Canada and Mexico without any issues.

"Yet, Miles recalled one agent calling it 'fake.'

" 'Anyone can make that,' she recalled another agent saying.

"Reported encounters between immigration agents and Indigenous people like Miles’ remain rare [BULLSHIT!]. But as immigration enforcement has gotten more aggressive, including in the Seattle area, incidents like Miles’ are stoking fears beyond immigrant communities.

"Miles said her son and uncle were both detained by ICE agents who initially did not accept their tribal IDs before they were eventually let go.

" 'What we’re talking about here is #RacialProfiling,' said Seattle-based Indigenous rights attorney Gabriel Galanda, who does not represent Miles. 'People are getting pulled over or detained on the street because of the dark color of their skin.' "

'People are scared': #FortPeck #TribalChair urges members to carry IDs to avoid #deportation

"#FortPeckAssiniboine and #Sioux Tribal Chairman #JustinGrayHawk on Friday issued a statement urging tribal members to carry their tribal IDs amid growing concern over President Donald #Trump’s recent executive orders.

"Gray Hawk wrote that community members feared the possibility of '(deporting) #NativeAmericans along with Mexicans in the hope that nobody can tell the difference.'

"When asked if the tribal enrollment office had received an uptick in calls after Trump’s inauguration, Enrollment Officer Twyla Red Eagle said, 'Yes. Yes. Yes.'
'Just this afternoon, we had 15 people in here,' she said. 'And people are calling from out-of-state where they had deportations already. … People are scared.'

"Fort Belknap Indian Community Vice President Judy King on Friday issued a similar statement, advising members to 'keep a copy of your tribal identification card on you at all times.'

"#NavajoNation Council delegates said they'd been contacted by tribal members in #Arizona who said they were detained by #ICE, according to the Arizona Republic.

"On his first day in office, Trump issued a slew of executive orders related to #immigration. He declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and said he plans to send U.S. troops to support agents, according to The Associated Press.

"Trump issued an executive order denying #USCitizenship to the children born in the states of parents living in the U.S. illegally. A U.S. District Judge temporarily blocked the order and as of Jan. 21, 22 states had sued to block the move, according to The Associated Press.
