On 3 June 1996, Dead Can Dance released their last album for the time being.
During the recording of 'Spiritchaser''s predecessor months later, they called it quits, halting their genre-exceeding partnership for more than 10 years, till their musical visions aligned again with 2012's Anastasis.
"After Spiritchaser, when we started to lose direction, and out of frustration we turned on each other. We drifted apart."

Dems in #Maine’s #2ndDistrict race tackle #tribal topics in #PresqueIsleME
By Cameron Levasseur, May 13, 2026
"The four Democrats competing in a June primary to face former Gov. #PaulLePage for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District met Wednesday night in Presque Isle at a forum put on by the #WabanakiAlliance to discuss tribal sovereignty and other issues facing the state’s native population.
"Hosted by the #MikmaqNation, one of Maine’s four #WabanakiNations, the event lasted two hours and covered a broad range of topics, from #WaterRights to gaming legislation to the teaching of #NativeHistory in Maine’s schools.
"The candidates — State Auditor #MattDunlap, state Sen. #JoeBaldacci, former political operative #JordanWood and social worker #PaigeLoud — agreed on nearly everything, chiefly in their wholehearted support of #TribalSovereignty.
"#Sovereignty has dominated the political conversation around Maine’s tribes for years, with majority support for its expansion in the state legislature countered by opposition from the state’s executive leaders, including LePage and then Gov. #JanetMills.
" 'Only when I worked on these issues federally … did I understand how wrong Maine has been to its tribes and the need to rectify that #injustice,' Wood said.
If elected, all four said they would reintroduce a 2022 bill put forth by U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, to amend the #MaineIndianClaimsSettlementAct of 1980 and give the Wabanaki the same rights under federal law as the 570 #FederallyRecognizedTribes.
"Golden currently represents the 2nd District but abruptly announced last fall that he would not seek reelection. His bill failed in the Senate after it was blocked by Sen. #AngusKing, another Maine politician who has expressed skepticism at tribal rights expansions."

#NativeAmericaCalling: #BorderWall construction damaging #SacredSites
Tuesday, May 26, 2026
"Construction crews working on the wall on the #USMexico border in #Arizona significantly damaged a 1,000-year-old #geoglyph located in #CabezaPrieta #NationalWildlifeRefuge. It’s one of a number of places tribes on both sides of the border say are damaged or are threatened by the fast-tracked construction process. #Tribal leaders say such desecration is happening at a record pace after the #Trump administration sidelined #cultural and #environmental barriers to construction. We’ll hear from cultural historians and policy experts about that is being lost and what can be done about it.

Lawsuit challenges cancellation of federal grants for #Tribal agricultural programs
Tribal groups join lawsuit seeking restoration of $127 million in canceled farm grants
In March, the USDA canceled 49 grants, including at least three supporting Montana projects designed to support ‘underserved’ farmers and ranchers.

By Nora Mabie, Montana Free Press
"Twenty-four organizations, including one that serves tribes in Montana and the surrounding region, on Tuesday joined a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture, alleging that grants supporting farmers and ranchers were unlawfully terminated.
"In March, the USDA canceled 49 of 50 Increasing Land, Capital and Market Access Program grants designed to support 'underserved' farmers and ranchers.
"At least three projects in Montana were affected: #PiikaniLodgeHealthInstitute, headquartered on the #Blackfeet Reservation, lost a nearly $9 million grant to improve operations for farmers and ranchers in the region. The #ChippewaCree Tribe in north-central Montana lost a nearly $6 million award to purchase land and train young farmers and ranchers how to manage it. And #SouthDakota-based #FourBandsCommunityFund lost an $8.5 million grant to train and financially support at least 25 #LowIncome agricultural producers in #Montana, #NorthDakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. At the time, Montana-based awardees described the terminations as 'devastating.' "
