Liam O'Mara IV, PhDOn #ThisDayInHistory in 1986, #Ukrainian Nazi #IvanDemjanjuk went on trial in Israel. He was confused with "Ivan the Terrible", a #Treblinka camp guard in the #Holocaust, so his conviction was overturned. Germany then prosecuted him for his actual service at #Sobibór death camp.

Die Stolpersteine für Bertold Mannes und Gertrude Mannes befinden sich in Schönebeck/Elbe, Sachsen-Anhalt. Bertold Mannes wurde 1901 in Leopoldshall geboren und lebte mit seiner Ehefrau in Schönebeck/Elbe. 1942 wurde er nach Treblinka deportiert und dort ermordet. Gertrude Mannes wurde 1904 in Hannover geboren. Sie wurde ebenfalls nach Treblinka deportiert und ermordet.
On #ThisDayInHistory in 1943, a revolt in the #Treblinka #ExterminationCamp led to the escape of 400 prisoners -- half the total there to be gassed. Fewer than 70 survived the war, however. The three #AktionReinhard camps were built for the sole purpose of murdering Polish Jews.
Minnesota Spy ClubAug 2: On this date in 1943, Jewish prisoners at the Treblinka extermination center launched a successful revolt. Over 200 escaped with about half surviving the war.
