I've been writing a travel story about Utrecht, Netherlands, today. Quite pleased I placed that one because I only visited the museum in question on a whim before a business lunch with the Eurail people (who are based in Utrecht).
Anyway, the article was supposed to be 900 words and the first draft was 970 words, which is not too bad for me. Trimmed it down in the arvo.

Very pleased to receive my copy of Wild & Inspired, an anthology of travel writing by members of the Australian Society of Travel Writers; it marks the 50th anniversary of the ASTW. I have a piece in there about the Pride of Africa train in South Africa.
Tapping my fingers because one of my clients is holding onto *eight* travel stories that I've been paid for, but they haven't published yet. And there are three more I'll be handing in shortly!
In the old days when it was a problem because they only paid on publication. They now pay when the stories are filed – which is good but creates a new problem, as I lose my leverage to get the damn things published. :)
Lonely Planet asked me to update my bio and photo on their website, so here it is - with links to some of my online stories:

A reminder about my travel narrative book about Poland's communist-era relics: The Kick of Stalin's Cow.
I in it I wander around Poland digging up the past, talking to Poles who remember the era, and visiting some wild architecture.
