“L’ultima volta, francamente, ho votato per Macron. Il problema con Macron è che è il candidato perfetto solo per persone come me, della classe media, per le quali le cose non vanno poi così male. Ovviamente, siamo contenti di avere uno come Macron, che dopotutto è intelligente, che non ci mette in imbarazzo all’estero, che è tutto questo. Ma il problema con Macron è che è un candidato per le persone benestanti. E ci sono più persone che stanno male che persone benestanti. E le persone che stanno male non apprezzano Macron“. Da una parte, dice Carrère, “è una persona animata da un’ambizione piuttosto nobile, sia per se stesso, sia per il suo destino, sia per il suo Paese”. Dall’altra “Macron è infastidito dal fatto che le persone non siano intelligenti quanto lui. Quindi, la maggior parte delle persone non è intelligente quanto Macron. Lui capisce tutto, analizza tutto bene. E quindi molte persone hanno l’impressione che Macron non le disprezzi nemmeno, ma che non capisca nemmeno la loro esistenza. No, non è assolutamente così. Questo è ciò che lo penalizza”. Il paragone è con un predecessore Valéry Giscard d’Estaing: “Era lo stesso tipo di persona, un tipo molto intelligente, molto brillante, che voleva il meglio per il suo paese, una sorta di modernizzazione del suo paese, tutto questo. E a un certo punto, tutta la Francia ha visto Giscard come un tipo arrogante, che non capiva niente, che era… E penso che Macron sia in qualche modo esposto alla stessa sorte, sì”.

The last time, frankly, I voted for Macron. The problem with Macron is that he’s the perfect candidate only for people like me, the middle class, for whom things aren’t going so badly. Of course, we’re happy to have someone like Macron, who after all is intelligent, who doesn’t embarrass us abroad, who is all this. But the problem with Macron is that he’s a candidate for the wealthy. And there are more people who are struggling than wealthy people. And people who are struggling don’t appreciate Macron.

On one hand, Carrère says, “he’s a person driven by a rather noble ambition, both for himself, for his destiny, and for his country.” On the other hand, “Macron is annoyed that people aren’t as intelligent as him. So, most people aren’t as intelligent as Macron. He understands everything, he analyzes everything well. And so many people have the impression that Macron doesn’t even despise them, but that he doesn’t understand their existence. No, it’s absolutely not like that. That’s what penalizes him.” The comparison is with a predecessor, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing: “It was the same type of person, a very intelligent, very brilliant type, who wanted the best for his country, a kind of modernization of his country, all this. And at some point, the whole of France saw Giscard as an arrogant type, who understood nothing, who was… And I think Macron is exposed to the same fate, yes.”

Chiede Travaglio: “Questa cosa per cui l’artista e l’intellettuale deve sempre avere una posizione, deve sempre esprimere, deve firmare appelli. Immagino che capiterà anche a te che ti chiedano di firmare appelli, di partecipare a campagne, di schierarti, di dire una cosa. Ti dicono spesso anche che cosa devi dire esattamente, perché se poi dici qualcosa di un po’ diverso non va bene. Ecco tu come ti poni su questa questione perché tu sei uno scrittore, sei uno scrittore che taglia l’attualità continuamente, però non mi pare che sei tra quelli che firmano tutto, che prendono sempre l’invettiva, l’attacco. Cosa ne pensi di questa polemica? Come ti poni tu?”
Risponde Carrère: “Penso che ci sia due famiglie di giornalisti. Ci sono i giornalisti che sono più o meno nel registro della tribuna, dell’opinione, dell’analisi, dell’editoriale, e poi ci sono i giornalisti che sono dal lato del reportage. Io non ho nessun disprezzo per la prima famiglia, ma molto chiaramente mi appartengo alla seconda. C’è quello che raccontano. Mi preoccupo delle mie stesse opinioni. Sono molto influenzabile, sono molto facilmente dell’opinione dell’ultimo che ha parlato, quindi non sono in alcun modo in grado di prendere posizione, non firmo una petizione”.

Travaglio asks: “This thing for which the artist and the intellectual must always have a position, must always express, must sign appeals. I imagine that it will also happen to you that they ask you to sign appeals, to participate in campaigns, to take a side, to say something. They often also tell you exactly what you must say, because if you then say something a little different it’s not good. So how do you stand on this issue because you are a writer, you are a writer who constantly cuts through current events, but I don’t think you’re among those who sign everything, who always take offense, the attack. What do you think of this controversy? How do you stand?”

Carrère responds: “I think there are two families of journalists. There are journalists who are more or less in the register of the tribune, of opinion, of analysis, of editorials, and then there are journalists who are on the side of reportage. I have no contempt for the first family, but very clearly I belong to the second. It’s the one who tells stories. I worry about my own opinions. I am very influenced, I am very easily of the opinion of the last one who has spoken, so I am in no way able to take a position, I don’t sign a petition.”

Elections, Travaglio on La7: “De Luca? It’s paradoxical that the only important victory for the center-left is the symbol of the bosses/elites.”

This municipal election is wrongly considered a test for the government. They are tests for the candidates in individual cities. Whoever picks the right candidates, who has governed well, or who has created a very strong system of power wins. That’s what Fatto Quotidiano editor Marco Travaglio comments on Otto e mezzo, on La7, regarding the results of the latest municipal elections, emphasizing how the center-right has confirmed its strength where it has wisely chosen its candidates.

The case of Venice is particularly noteworthy, where outgoing mayor Luigi Brugnaro’s “system” withstood difficulties without any problems. “I don’t really understand – Travaglio observes – how they were hoping the Venice system put in place by Brugnaro could be shaken by the case of the concertmaster, which many of our colleagues became so passionate about. I never understood why the Venetians should reject the center-right because they had appointed Venice to the Phoenix or because there had been a mess between the government and Buttafuoco for the Biennale, which is not only a national but an international case.”

He continues: “They found Venturini, that is, an excellent candidate, then I don’t know how he will be as mayor of Venice, but he’s a 38-year-old former civic scout who served as an assessor with Brugnaro and was infinitely more appealing than the Pd candidate.”

On the other side, the center-left presented Andrea Martella, a long-standing parliamentarian, defined by Travaglio as “a lovely person” but with limited appeal compared to the opponent’s fresh profile. The Fatto editor spares no criticism of the Pd, ironically highlighting the paradox of the center-left’s most significant victory: that of Vincenzo De Luca in Salerno.

“We’ve seen bosses one after another in these elections – Travaglio observes – and it’s paradoxical that the only important victory of a center-left man is precisely the symbol of the bosses, that is, Vincenzo De Luca, who takes back Salerno for the fifth time: mayor for five terms and regional president for two.”

The editor denounces the absence of a law on leadership renewal: “Tell me if it’s possible that in 2026 there isn’t yet a law that mandates renewal and breaks certain clientelistic relationships in the cities. But it is legitimate and therefore he returns for the fifth time to be mayor in a city devastated by 60 skyscrapers that looks like Manhattan, but more ugly. However, this is the verdict of the citizens.”

The journalist concludes with a direct jab at Pd Secretary Elly Schlein: “She was elected with the promise to eliminate the bosses and capibastones, and at the European elections she won by sending all the bosses and capibastones with a handful of mandates on their shoulders. And now she finds herself with De Luca, who, without the Pd symbol, incinerates any attempt at an alternative.”

“Ci sono i suoi colbacchi di astrakan, ci sono i suoi dischi, i suoi strumenti, la sua tastiera. Ma ci sono anche le sue interviste, lui che si racconta con grande pudore e avarizia di particolari pop. Qui, in definitiva, c’è tutto Battiato”. Il direttore de il Fatto Quotidiano, Marco Travaglio, ha visitato la mostra Franco Battiato. Un’altra vita, dedicata al cantautore e compositore siciliano ospitata al MAXXI di Roma fino al 26 aprile, ricordandolo a cinque anni dalla scomparsa. L’esposizione è stata curata da Giorgio Calcara con Grazia Cristina Battiato.
“Ci manca ormai da cinque anni – ha detto Travaglio – ma basta guardarsi intorno per capire che è salito di livello, che è tornato semplicemente dall’altra parte da cui era arrivato. È stato uno dei nostri pochi artisti internazionali. Ma anche intergenerazionale. E intergalattico”. La mostra-evento ha celebrato il genio umano e musicale dell’artista. Un’esperienza che oltre la musica per raccontare la sfaccettature della sua personalità: cantautore, musicista, poeta, filosofo, intellettuale.
Coprodotta dal Ministero della Cultura e dal MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, la mostra è curata da Giorgio Calcara con Grazia Cristina Battiato ed è organizzata da C.O.R. Creare Organizzare Realizzare di Alessandro Nicosia, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Franco Battiato ETS.

There are his astrakhan furs, there are his discs, his instruments, his keyboard. But there are also his interviews, him telling his story with great modesty and a miserliness of details from popular culture. Here, ultimately, is everything Battiato. The editor of Il Fatto Quotidiano, Marco Travaglio, visited the exhibition Franco Battiato. A Different Life, dedicated to the Sicilian singer-songwriter and composer, hosted at the MAXXI in Rome until April 26th, remembering him five years after his death. The exhibition was curated by Giorgio Calcara with Grazia Cristina Battiato.

“We’ve been missing him for five years – Travaglio said – but just looking around you can see that he raised the bar, that he simply came back from the other side from which he had arrived. He was one of our few international artists. But also intergenerational. And intergalactic.” The event exhibition celebrated the human and musical genius of the artist. An experience that goes beyond music to tell the multifaceted aspects of his personality: singer-songwriter, musician, poet, philosopher, intellectual.

Co-produced by the Ministry of Culture and the MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts, the exhibition is curated by Giorgio Calcara with Grazia Cristina Battiato and organized by C.O.R. Creare Organizzare Realizzare of Alessandro Nicosia, in collaboration with the Fondazione Franco Battiato ETS.

Dalla tristemente nota vicenda che ha coinvolto Ruby Rubacuori, al secolo Karima El Mahroug, e l’allora presidente del Consiglio, Silvio Berlusconi, fino alle feste hard a casa dello stesso Berlusconi. Quando è uscita la notizia della grazia concessa dal presidente della Repubblica, Sergio Mattarella, a Nicole Minetti, il direttore de il Fatto Quotidiano, Marco Travaglio, ha ricostruito la “carriera” dell’ex igienista dentale nella puntata di Accordi&Disaccordi, in onda sul Nove, di sabato 18 aprile.
“Quale giudice minorile affiderebbe un minore a quella del bunga-bunga travestita da suora con le tette e il culo di fuori e col giro di squillo minorenni?” domanda ironicamente Travaglio. “Solo un pazzo, evidentemente”. Ma poi, aggiunge Travaglio, “c’è un problemino giuridico: la doppia condanna di Minetti è definitiva dal 2022, ma è stata sospesa per tre anni in attesa che nel dicembre scorso il Tribunale di sorveglianza esaminasse la sua richiesta di accesso ai servizi sociali. Poi anche lì si è bloccato tutto perché lei ha chiesto la grazia. E poi la grazia le ha cancellato tutto, perché le ha levato direttamente la condanna”.

From the tragically well-known affair involving Ruby Rubacuori, known as Karima El Mahroug, and then-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, to the hard parties at Berlusconi’s own home. When the news of the pardon granted by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to Nicole Minetti emerged, the director of il Fatto Quotidiano, Marco Travaglio, reconstructed the “career” of the former dental hygienist on the Accordi&Disaccordi episode, broadcast on Nove, on Saturday, April 18th.

“Which minor judge would entrust a minor to one involving the ‘bunga-bunga’ disguised as a nun with her breasts and buttocks exposed and a ringtone operated by minors?” Travaglio ironically asks. “Only a madman, evidently.” But then, Travaglio adds, “there’s a legal problem: Minetti’s double conviction is final since 2022, but it was suspended for three years pending the surveillance court’s examination of her request for access to social services. Then, even there, everything stalled because she requested the pardon. And then the pardon erased everything, because it directly removed the conviction.”
