مختارات من القصة العربية القصيرة
في هذه المجموعة أربع وعشرون قصة قصيرة، مختارة بعناية مما نُشر بين العامين 2023 و2025. تعد القصص نماذج على فن القصة العربية القصيرة الحديثة، حيث نجد كتَّابًا من فلسطين وسوريا والسعودية وعُمان والجزائر والعراق والأردن وتونس، وكما هو متوقع، استحوذ المصريون على معظم ما في الكتاب، علامة على حبهم وتمكنهم من هذا النوع الفريد من الأدب.
تتراوح مواضيع القصص بين الشخصي والعام، بين الانعزال والتواصل مع الآخرين، بين الاستسلام للاكتئاب والعلاج النفسي، بين الملل من كل شيء والقدرة على الاندهاش. نال الكثير من هؤلاء الكتَّاب؛ عزلة الكورونا، وقبلها الإحباطات الشخصية الناتجة بشكل أساسي عن فشل الثورات العربية، وبالطبع الخسائر الناتجة عن سنوات عديدة من القلق والأسى المستمرين، نتيجة الرفض أو خيبة الأمل في الحبيب أو الزوج، وصدمات الطفولة، وأخيرًا حرب الإبادة في غزة. لكن من الناحية الأخرى، كانت هذه العوامل دافعًا لكتابة هذه القصص المبهرة.

The Best of The Markaz Review
The anthology reflects on five years of publishing poetry, fiction, essays, visual art, and reviews. Divided into six thematic sections—Home, War, Revolution & Refugees, Art, Memory, and Hope, contributors include such acclaimed and emerging voices as MK Harb, Ghassan Ghassan, Joumana Haddad, Iason Athanasidis, Mansoura Ez-Eldin, Fadi Zaghmout, Mai Al-Nakib and Nabil Salih, alongside the artwork of Mohamed Al Mufti and Sara Shamma, among others, and poets including Mona Kareem, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha and Najwan Darwish.
The Best of The Markaz Review is both a celebration of the publication’s first five years and a declaration of its ongoing mission: to champion authentic voices from the Middle East, North Africa, and diaspora communities, and to affirm that culture, literature, and human dignity matter.

The Man of Middling Height
What if our society’s deepest prejudices weren’t about race, gender, or sexuality—but height? In his groundbreaking allegorical novel, acclaimed Jordanian author and activist Fadi Zaghmout imagines just such a world, crafting a powerful meditation on discrimination and desire that speaks directly to our contemporary debates about identity and inclusion.
The Man of Middling Height follows a short dressmaker whose life is upended when she meets Tallan, a man whose middle height places him outside the rigid tall/short binary that governs their society. As their forbidden romance blossoms, they must navigate a world where height determines everything from social status to romantic possibilities. Through their story and those of surrounding characters—including a short person in a polyamorous relationship with two tall partners, and a tall activist who scandalously loves another tall person—Zaghmout deftly reframes contemporary discussions about gender identity and sexuality through the lens of height discrimination.
