EDIT: Thanks for all the boosts, but I've reached the point where im angry enough at both the fediverse and people in general that I don't think I'll sell them after all, im just going to send both to scrap (yes, im angry enough to trash two really good vehicle bodies out of spite)

Does anyone on fedi in the US Pacific Northwest want a 1989 Toyota Van project (needs and ecu and maybe wiring work) or a 1991 Subaru Justy (motor is rebuilt out of the car, it needs another justy to take the oil pump from). Im located in Oak Grove Oregon just south of Portland.

There's still some finishing work to do, but im quite happy with how the new faceplate for my van's auxiliary air valve came out.

If Id printed it the other way around (face up instead of face down) the gasket surface wouldnt need any real cleanup, but it wouldve added a ton of supports and my nfep is nearly worn out (I find supports stress it far more than large faces). 2 minutes of sanding isn't that big of a deal.

In good news: I've discovered that one of the parts for my van that I can't find (The aux air valve) is actually a very slight variation on a fairly common Bosch part from the era, so maybe I can get my van back together without spending too much.

I think I'll need to get one of the ones from a Nissan and just take the part (hose nipple/faceplate) from it that is necessary to repair mine, since there is enough of a difference that I'd worry about it not matching closely enough as a whole unit.

In good news: this ultrasonic cleaner is kind of amazing. My throttle body (after another session in fresh water/cleaner solution) is basically spotless, and it cleaned up the injectors so they look almost brand new. All four (and the cold-start injector) pass the tests I can do with my little injector pulser and a can of cleaner.

In not-so-good news: I'm going to have to 3d print injector seats and half of the auxiliary air valve, and there's a lot of corrosion in some parts of the coolant system that worries me.

Anyone know anything about replacing hose nipples/fittings that are press-fitted in to a throttle body?

I really want a 90's HiAce, but they're so expensive here (Pacific Northwest USA)... I'm just gonna keep this us market "van" going as long as I can.

A Hidden Retreat on Sherkin Island

An old van sits in the driveway of a house on Sherkin Island, Co Cork. The barrier blocking the way is apparently used extensively on the islands off the Irish coast and in other rural areas, but Iโ€™m more familiar with seeing them in WWII films or war zones!

I swear, the Toyota engineers that built this van put some kind of curse on it. Every time I start to track down a problem, the problem disappears.

At this point, my best guess is that its having heat-induced resistance along the starter-solenoid wire, which Toyota engineers decided should be a little tiny 18ga wire running all the way from the ignition switch, across the motor through the hottest part of the engine hump then down to the starter solenoid.

These vans are known for collecting heat in the engine hump and it only seems to have trouble starting when it is hot outside *and* the van is hot from driving.

It doesn't help that my battery is utter garbage and a new battery would cost almost as much as the charger for my unicycle.

I bought this van to drive a few times a month when I needed to haul serious cargo or clients' dogs, not to be a daily driver.

Fun things I learned about my van today:

It is a cargo model that someone modded to be a passenger van.

It has the motor from the earlier generation of this van, which is not compatible with the oil filter I bought.

The exhaust is completely custom from the catalytic converter back, it has a good cat, and it has good newish looking O2 sensors, but it is mounted way too high and that's why the rear bumper is melted.

Both the oil and ATF drain plugs had the wrong kind of washer, which explains the slightly low oil and ATF conditions it had.

The seats were bolted in by a complete idiot and it took both me and a friend nearly an hour to get them out. They'll make good couches.

Got a bunch of little things fixed on my toyota van today.

- The driver door handle is solidly attached again, so I don't have to roll down the window to close the door.

- Both engine inspection doors are actually bolted down, and their seals are attached properly.

- The battery box lid is bolted down.

- All the taillights work, and their access covers are properly attached.

Now I just need to pull the bench seats out and couch-ify them for my living room, then find a good way to protect the carpet, and it'll be good to go as a light cargo van for all my home improvement projects.
