This shameful dynamic is familiar to any woman or person of colour.
Calling out racism / sexism / ableism is a greater offence than speaking or behaving in a racist / sexist / ableist way.
Why? Because naming the behaviour discomforts the privileged majority. Behaving badly normalises the ongoing oppression of minority groups.
When you’ve always inhabited a position of privilege the status quo feels like equality. Power is Always seen more clearly from below. Some folks prefer to swan through life refusing to listen to any perspective but their own.
It’s not like this analysis is new.
We are all entitled to safe workplace.
Parliament should set an example of good practice, not this abysmal ‘she’s just being a snowflake’, ’part of the rough & tumble of politics’ boys’ club crap we see from some of our elected representatives.
They are still playing schoolyard bully while the rest of us have grown up.
Pathetic.
