Well, wel, well... Apparently, #ToxicIndividualism is a thing! So sick of leaders and followers who don't understand how everything is #Interconnected! #TrueEvil! (In my #Jungian interpretation, "That which separates us from God / #Nature / Each Other").

How America Fell into Toxic Individualism

The American psyche's tendencies towards narcisissism and individualism have been weaponized into a toxic mentality that desperately needs reform and change.

If you want to understand #Texas / #US #Southern culture / #ToxicIndividualism better, explore this memory with me:

I was briefly visiting someone's home in earlyish 2020 in the Dallas area (I will omit the context for privacy reasons, but let it suffice to say that it was a professional visit), and I couldn't help but notice enormous framed "Don't Tread on Me" and/or "Come and Take It" flags (I can't remember which, or if it was both, but likely just the latter) hanging in their living room, along with a tower of toilet paper packages (would've been enough for 5-10 households to survive the brief shortage) in the closet.

It may be that they had been stockpiling toilet paper "of old," but most likely, they rushed and bought up all the toilet paper they could get their hands on when they heard of the shortage.

I did not know them well, and did not have an opportunity (nor indeed the inclination) to inquire about it.

Cross reference: "Rolling coal" (a very stupid diesel truck mod)

We often say to billionaire apologists that “you’re never going to be picked by these ultra wealthy people” or that “they’re not going to share their money” but I think it’s not that at all for the upper/solid middle class and the people who have made it to the top ten percent. I think they support these people because it allows them to be ultra selfish and apathetic like billionaires. They’re normalizing #toxicindividualism defending it with “generational wealth” & “it’s for My children”
@xenophora @nullagent yup, i agree. I id as an anti-trump republican but the truth is my disenchantment began in the 90s—both parties are following the neoliberal agenda and will do anything for it not to collapse until the “old guard” dies—as long as their retirement plans are ok fuck the younger generations…#toxicindividualism i hate it when people say D’s fix what Rs broke—no they clean up the mess & leave the broken system as is—

A nation of citizens and immigrants bound together by the law.

Not anymore. Everyone knows better. #toxicindividualism
Look around. The pandemic showed us. 45/7 isn’t the problem our fellow citizens are—citizens who believe they are above the law yet who will run to those same legal institutions when something goes wrong.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s choice of Minnesota governor Tim Walz to be her running mate seems to cement the emergence of a new Democratic Party.

I really hope the violent punitive/ "white knighting" urge is curbed.
I wonder whether library workers could make an announcement to go correct that parking job, like over the PA, the same as they would for example, a patron leaving lights on.
It seems some people feel free to be even less neighborly behind a machine vs body to body in public space/ IRL.

I was born in the 80's, so I can't speak from experience, but from the history I've read, it seems like before Reagan, Democrats and Republicans pretty much agreed that, as a citizen of this country, you had responsibilities to other people. Feels like since Reagan the "fuck you, muh rights!" crowd has been getting bigger and louder. #Politics #FuckRepublicans #ToxicIndividualism #CountryFirst #DemocratsAreBetterThanTheAlternative
