2/2 The brightness, most of all, makes it seem fresh and alive. The oak rounds it off while the floral aromatics are completely enticing. This is a top producer in the Lisboa region--a good calling card here. 14%, $45-ish #portugal #wine #touriganacional

This Lisboa region 2013 Touriga Nacional from top producer Chocapalha remains fresh and supple, silky and laced with blue fruits. Mostly easygoing at this age, it still wakes up with air, shows some bite and improves notably. In fact, it seems gloriously young, sensually textured and vigorous at times. The brightness, most of all, makes it seem fresh and alive.

Touriga & Dão--usually a good idea. From Madre de Água, a producer not as well known as some, this is beautiful, concentrated, mouth-coating in texture and flavorful, plus perfectly balanced. The ripeness and the freshness come together in a nice place. The blue fruits are tasty! This is young, but it is already drinking rather nicely.

This place is not a high-profile producer, yet, but they did have Paulo Nunes as consultant (Casa da Passarella).

This brand from Cartuxa changes grapes. In 2015, it's Touriga Nacional. It opens a bit tight and sharp, with a touch of vanilla on the nose. Air smooths it out and allows it to express itself better, but a little more cellaring wouldn't hurt. Elegant and rather tasty too. Around $140, 14.5%. #wine #portugal #touriganacional #alentejo
This 2001 Touriga is a classic example of an inexpensive wine ($25 USA pricing in 2007) that vastly exceeds expectations. I didn't expect it to hold this well or this long, but it's lovely today--fresh, bright and elegant, very Burgundian. It still has a fruity edge, even if obviously more mature. Santar is a well-known name, of course, and this was a fine performance. Go Dão! #wine #winesofportugal #dao #touriganacional

😋😋😋
This 2010 Touriga Nacional is in a perfect place now, but certainly has lots of life left. This is about what I would have hoped for it. Sensual, velvety, aromatic and fresh. On release this was about $70. You don't tend to get a lot of great Touriga from the South, but this is lovely. Mouro is a great estate, of course.
