"Joyce is, in the Wake, making his own Altamira cave drawings of the entire history of the human mind, in terms of its basic gestures and postures during all the phases of human culture and technology. As his title indicates, he saw that the wake of human progress can disappear again into the night of sacral or auditory man. The Finn cycle of tribal institutions can return in the electric age, but if again, then let’s make it a wake or awake or both. Joyce could see no advantage in our remaining locked up in each cultural cycle as in a trance or dream. He discovered the means of living simultaneously in all cultural modes while quite conscious.”

"What is Earth Month at the Brick Works?

For over 15 years, #EvergreenBrickWorks has been Toronto’s demonstration hub for sustainability: a repurposed historic site that proves what’s possible when we reimagine public space for people and planet. Every April, we open our doors to a whole month of programming in celebration of that.

Earth Month at the Brick Works brings together community organizations, environmental educators, artists, local vendors and Torontonians interested in exploring the things that matter:

How do we live more sustainably? How do we create less waste? How do we reconnect with the natural world right here in the city?"

Season Two Episode Five: Creating a Solarpunk Society in the Big City with Lindsay Jane

On today’s episode, Ariel talks to Lindsay Jane of The Solarpunk Scene where she showcases her solarpunk life in Toronto, as well as shining a spotlight on solarpunk projects locally and internationally. Lindsay tells us about how she discovered solarpunk and the ways that she lives a solarpunk life in the city - both the upsides (gardens! architecture! effective transit!) and the downsides (sky-high rent, expensive food, difficulty cultivating outdoor gardens). She also emphasizes the importance of getting involved in your local community and politics as a city-dweller, and lets listeners in on the behind-the-scenes inspiration for The Solarpunk Scene: tune in to learn more!

Check out The Solarpunk Scene website, YouTube (+ stream channel!), plus Patreon, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitch.
