Caltrans to Close Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Palisades Fire Recovery Work Zone in Anticipation of Rainstorms

LOS ANGELES – Caltrans crews will close a 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive three hours early at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in anticipation of predicted rainstorms and possibility of mud and debris flows.

"STORM UPDATE: 1/5 - Topanga Canyon Blvd reopens from Grand View Drive to Pacific Coast Highway following a closure due to rainstorms, rockfall and debris flows. The highway reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday after workers finished clearing debris flows and rockfall from weekend rainstorms.
Caltrans closed the highway just before midnight on Friday night ahead of expected storms for safety.
This stretch of Topanga Cyn 27 is now reopened to the public with previous restrictions. It remains an active work zone for ongoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and winter storms. It is closed from midnight to 5 a.m. daily and has traffic restrictions including a one-way traffic control section south of the Topanga town center, and a 25 MPH speed limit, no parking, no stopping and no pedestrians allowed in the work zones. "

Caltrans will fully close Topanga Canyon Blvd between Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Grand View Dr starting 9PM Tues, 12/23, due to forecasted heavy rain and potential for mud and debris flows in the Palisades Fire recovery area. No exact ETA for reopening, but the closure is expected through at least Fri, 12/26 with conditions reassessed daily.
The National Weather Service is forecasting significant rainfall Tuesday night through Saturday, with the heaviest impacts expected late Tuesday into Wednesday and again on Thursday, Christmas Day. Mud and debris flows are possible.
Expect mud, rocks and water on all roads. Expect delays, and avoid travel if possible - especially around burn scars. Drive cautiously and use headlights in the rain, watch for workers and work vehicles. Come to a complete stop at any malfunctioning traffic signal under CA law."

Topanga Canyon Update 3/19/25
Topanga Canyon Boulevard (SR-27) remains closed to the public for safety reasons between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View as extensive cleanup and repairs continue. The closure is to protect the public from serious injuries and fatalities.
Caltrans is prepared to open the road as soon as it is safe to do so in coordination with the California Highway Patrol, utilities and local public agencies.
Caltrans expects to open one lane to school buses during designated times with an escort this week and is working on a plan with its partners to also allow essential business travel during this timeframe.
