After years of trying in a too cold part of the country, I'm finally getting a decent growth on Toona sinensis, the French onion soup tree. Heat is for sure a decisive factor. We're in central Copenhagen here with lots of thermal mass and shelter from wind. Genetics seem to be too - I planted both of these last year, one is now taller than my friend, the other only knee high. I can't harvest from these plants because the soil is severely polluted as it is an old military base and years of people using the ground for dumping trash of all sorts. But we can learn something about a species growth and enjoy the view in the meantime.
