Andrew Shields@bourgwick @mangrovevalley Deep down a “Scarlet Begonias” rabbit hole, I came across the claim that Tony Orlando worked in some sort of capacity for/with The Grateful Dead in the late 1960s. But all I can find is the band’s name in lists of artists or groups he worked with (as on the Tony Orlando Wikipedia page). Do either of you, Jesse and Steve, know anything about this supposed work? 50+ Music"Candida" is the debut single by American #popMusic group #Dawn, with vocals by #TonyOrlando, released in July 1970. The song, written by #IrwinLevine and #ToniWine, was produced by #DaveAppell and #HankMedress for #BellRecords. Appell and Medress originally recorded another singer on the track, but decided that a different vocal approach would be preferable. Medress then approached Orlando to do the vocals. Orlando had been a professional singer in the early 1960s.
