I was invited to design a “koi nobori” (carp streamer) to be displayed at Tokyo Midtown this year for Children’s Day. This koinobori uses my yet to be released typeface Louvette Pixel set hiragana, katakana, kanji, and the latin script. The design is focused on specificity of time and place. Particularly Japan’s 19th microseason in early May and it’s seasonal flower (藤 wisteria), fish (金目鯛 kinmedai ), vegetable(人参 carrot), and event (端午の節句Children’s Day). Mount Takao

After waking up at the Mercure, we had breakfast at Rokurinsha in Tokyo Station and visited the summit of Mt. Takao. We enjoyed the view as well as the Takao-san Yakuo-in before returning to Tokyo for the winter illuminations at Tokyo Midtown and Tokyo Midtown Hibiya.

Mount Takao

After waking up at the Mercure, we went up to Tokyo Station where we had tsukemen for breakfast at Rokurinsha. We then took the train to Takaosanguchi, a chairlift partway up Mt. Takao, and then walked up to the summit. We enjoyed the view as well as the Takao-san Yakuo-in before returning to Tokyo. We then went to see the winter illuminations at Tokyo Midtown and Tokyo Midtown Hibiya.

Sakura Illumination

After arriving at Haneda, we checked in at the Mesm, near Hamamatsucho. We had dinner nearby, which was the most disappointing meal we've had in Japan. After, we went to see night sakura illuminations at Tokyo Midtown and Roppongi before getting some 7-Eleven onigiri on the way back.
