Seattle leaders don’t have much to say about city’s restroom problem

Most Seattle leaders didn't have much to say when asked about the city's inadequate supply of public restrooms and what they plan to do about it.

A third article from the Seattle Times on our deplorable lack of toilet access! Very familiar stories. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/where-do-people-pee-in-seattle-bushes-bottles-and-pike-place-market/ #ToiletAccess #ToiletPolitics
Where do people pee in Seattle? Bushes, bottles and Pike Place Market

We asked readers where they go to pee in Seattle. Almost 1,000 responses poured in, painting a picture of a city with seriously limited toilet options.

It should be trivial to find an accessible and usable toilet when living in a city — one that doesn’t require you to worry some business will say no or require you to spend money. But that’s how it is in #Seattle and basically everywhere nearby. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/where-to-go-when-nature-calls-seattle-has-a-public-restroom-problem/ #ToiletPolitics
Where to go when nature calls? Seattle has a public restroom problem

Seattle has a crappy supply of public restrooms. They’re often old, messy or closed. In spots, they don’t exist at all.

The Seattle Times
A pharmacy (Bartell’s) not having a public toilet when they are offering vaccination appointments where you have to wait nearly half an hour after your appointment time is (a) a violation of #Seattle city law and (b) discriminatory towards those with health issues needing frequent toilet access. I get that they have staffing issues and other priorities that can delay appointments but it’s not acceptable that so many businesses don’t have public toilets. #ToiletPolitics
The city of #Seattle and its leaders apparently just want folks to take a 💩 on the sidewalk because there are next to no toilets a person can reliably access in most of the city. I started carrying an “urban toilet kit” so I had poop bags, sanitary wipes, etc if I couldn’t find anywhere “legal” to go. How is it Target can get away with this? City regulations actually REQUIRE businesses like this to have public restrooms. #ToiletPolitics #PublicRestrooms https://social.ridetrans.it/@greenarchist/111094128281687873

Target in downtown Seattle has locked their restrooms behind keypads and taken the signs down. The guards and staff say, “we have no public restrooms, the nearest public restroom is at Pike Place Market, a three minute walk.” This in in a three floor deparment store that has a baby section. This is unacceptable.
