Il Fatto Quotidiano: Israele va a elezioni anticipate: verso lo scioglimento della Knesset dopo la decisione degli ultraortodossi di togliere la fiducia

Il governo Netanyahu è ormai arrivato al termine. Fatale è stato l’annuncio dei partiti ultraortodossi di voler votare la sfiducia al governo, in protesta con il mancato accordo sulla legge per l’arruolamento dei giovani religiosi. Così, il capo della coalizione di governo ha depositato il disegno di legge per lo scioglimento della Knesset. Una situazione complicata per il primo ministro Benjamin Netanyahu che, pur conservando uno zoccolo duro di sostenitori, nei sondaggi è dato come secondo partito, dietro alla nuova coalizione Together/Yachad dei leader dell’opposizione Yair Lapid e Naftali Bennet. Proprio Lapid esulta alla notizia di possibili elezioni anticipate rispetto alla data naturale del 27 ottobre: “Siamo pronti. Insieme”, ha scritto su X.
Il disegno di legge inizierà l’iter parlamentare la settimana prossima, ma l’esito appare ormai scontato. La coalizione di governo gode infatti di 64 seggi sui 120 totali dell’assemblea, appena 3 in più del necessario per avere la maggioranza. E di questi ben sette sono occupati dai membri di United Torah Judaism di cui fa parte anche Degel HaTorah (tre seggi) che per prima ha minacciato di essere pronta a votare la sfiducia all’esecutivo dopo la legge sulla leva obbligatoria.
Oltre che una questione politica, le elezioni anticipate, che si terranno presumibilmente in una data utile tra il 1 settembre e il 27 ottobre, sollevano di nuovo il tema sui problemi giudiziari del premier. A proposito, proprio mercoledì sul tema era intervenuto il presidente Isaac Herzog che aveva velatamente suggerito al primo ministro di accettare un patteggiamento che potrebbe evitargli il carcere e garantirgli un’uscita di scena più dignitosa: “Una volta che una delle parti si è dichiarata disponibile a sedersi al tavolo delle trattative, mi aspetto che anche l’altra parte faccia lo stesso – ha detto – In questioni di grande importanza, che feriscono profondamente la società israeliana e la dividono, la strada giusta è quella di raggiungere intese e accordi”.

The Netanyahu government has reached its end. Fatal was the announcement by the ultra-Orthodox parties of wanting to vote a no-confidence vote in the government, in protest over the failure to reach an agreement on the law for the recruitment of religious youth. Thus, the head of the governing coalition submitted the bill for the dissolution of the Knesset. This is a complicated situation for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who, while retaining a core of supporters, is presented in polls as the second party, behind the new opposition coalition Together/Yachad led by leaders Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennet. Lapid himself celebrates the news of possible early elections ahead of the natural date of October 27th: “We are ready. Together,” he wrote on X.
The bill will begin its parliamentary process next week, but the outcome now appears predetermined. The governing coalition has 64 seats out of a total of 120 in the assembly, just 3 more than necessary to have a majority. And of these, seven are occupied by members of United Torah Judaism, which includes Degel HaTorah (three seats) that first threatened to be ready to vote a no-confidence vote in the executive after the mandatory conscription law.
Beyond a political issue, the early elections, which are expected to be held at a convenient date between September 1st and October 27th, raise again the issue of the Prime Minister’s judicial problems. Incidentally, on Wednesday, President Isaac Herzog had intervened on the subject, indirectly suggesting to the Prime Minister that he accept a plea bargain that could avoid him prison and ensure a more dignified exit: “Once one of the parties has declared itself willing to sit at the negotiating table, I expect the other party to do the same – he said – In matters of great importance, that deeply wound Israeli society and divide it, the right path is to reach understandings and agreements.”
